Given the theme of "Science Fiction," I was faced with the challenge of designing an identity system and supplemental materials for a hypothetical event. I didn't know where to start—the entire genre of Science Fiction is too large and its identity too ingrained in our entertainment industry's history to create something that could encapsulate it all. With several aspects to highlight, countless characters to talk about, and stories to tell, I decided to design for an event that focuses on something our world needs: peace.
Science fiction is such a nostalgic genre for me—I grew up watching Star Wars, Third Rock from the Sun, among other shows that the event speakers were taken from. I also grew up with a love and fascination for outer space, so naturally I was excited to get into this project and explore the depth of my childhood imagination again. I based the colors & aesthetics in the event branding off of science fiction from the 50s, 60s, and 70s but with a contemporary execution. Inspired by Third Rock From the Sun, I decided to bring in some cheeky humor and terrible puns on the map of Mars with names such as "Crater Joe's" and "Two Moons Market."
